Nightingale House Hospice is inviting walkers of all ages to support their local hospice by signing up for The Towpath Trek, taking place on Sunday 6th September 2026.
Organised by the Hospice’s dedicated Chirk Community Group, The Towpath Trek is a refreshed take on the much-loved World Heritage Walk. The family-friendly fundraising challenge combines stunning scenery, local heritage and community spirit, while raising vital funds to support patients and families cared for by Nightingale House Hospice.
The distinctive 12-mile walk follows the historic canal towpath from Llangollen to Chirk, taking participants through an area renowned for its rich industrial heritage and breathtaking landscapes. Along the route, walkers will experience iconic landmarks including Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, Chirk Aqueduct, Trevor Basin and Chirk Tunnel, all within the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
With a registration fee of just £10 for adults and free entry for children, the hospice hopes to encourage even more families and friends to get involved this year. Participants are being encouraged to raise as much sponsorship as possible, with every pound helping to fund specialist care and support for local people living with life-limiting illnesses and their loved ones.

Participants will meet at Lion Quays, Oswestry (SY11 3EN), where free parking will be available. A complimentary shuttle bus, kindly provided by Pat’s Coaches, will then transport walkers to the Chainbridge Hotel in Llangollen for a prompt 10am start.
The walk is expected to take approximately four to five hours to complete, although participants are welcome to walk at their own pace. Children are welcome when accompanied by an appropriate adult, and dogs can join the trek provided they are kept on a lead throughout.
Every participant must register, including children, and must be able to complete the full 12-mile route.
