  • Information Governance Lead and Data Protection Officer

    22.5HRS/WEEK (3 DAYS)
    PAY SCALE (WTE) £31,383 – £41,373
    PRO-RATA £18,829 – £24,823

    The post holder will lead on Information Governance and also act as the Data Protection Officer (DPO) for Nightingale House Hospice as defined under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2016, initially assisting in the organisations preparation for the full roll out on 25th May 2018. Upon roll out, the Regulation specifies the minimum duties or “tasks” to be performed by the DPO. (Article 39(1)(a)-(e) (2)

    • To inform and advise the organisations trustee board, and their employees, of their obligations under the Regulation and other applicable laws and regulations
    • To monitor compliance with the Regulation and other applicable laws and regulations and with the relevant policies of the organisations data controller, this includes assignment of responsibilities, awareness and training, and relevant audits.
    • To advise on the data protection impact assessment (DPIA) and monitor its performance, and To liaise with the Information Commissioner’s Office as required (Article 39(1)(a)-(e)
    • The DPO will be the contact point for the public as regards the Regulations.

    The post holder will also manage the existing and developing information governance requirements coupled with best practice, guidance, support and implementation for such individual initiatives as Information Security, Freedom of Information, Records Management, Caldicott, Data Protection, Confidentiality and Information Quality, with the aim of ensuring a consistent approach to Information Governance, the Caldicott Function and information security throughout the organisation.

    Applicants will need at least one year’s experience working within a data governance job role or similar and a good understanding of DPA, GDPR, PECR and PCI DSS.

    A questionnaire will be sent to the successful candidate. This must be completed and forwarded to Occupational Health. The candidate must be declared fit before commencing employment.

    Qualifications/Professional Registration

    Appointments are offered subject to the successful candidate providing evidence of professional qualification(s) and continuing professional registration.


    All offers of employment are subject to the receipt of two references that are satisfactory to the Hospice.

    Contract – Notice Period    

    1 week’s notice is required, from either party, during the probationary period and 4 weeks thereafter.

    Probationary Period

    Appointments for all staff are subject to a 12 month probationary period.


    A DBS check is required for certain roles within the hospice

    The Hospice operates a pension scheme through NOW pensions who will contact you regarding the scheme and eligibility once you are in post. If you are currently in the NHS pension scheme please discuss this with HR on commencement.

    Life Insurance Cover

    Death in Service Life Insurance Cover equivalent to two times basic salary for all eligible staff who are not covered by the NHS Superannuation Scheme.


    Holiday entitlement is 25 days per year plus 8 Bank Holidays for full time staff, (pro rata for part time hours). This increases to a maximum of 32 days plus Bank Holidays after 10 years service, subject to Holiday policy.

    Sick Pay

    In the first year of service – up to 5 contractual sick days then SSP.
    In the second year of service – up to 10 contractual sick days then SSP.
    After two years’ employment – up to 13 weeks full pay and 13 weeks half pay in any rolling year.
    After 5 years’ employment – up to 26 weeks full pay and 26 weeks half pay in any rolling year.
    Pro rata for part time staff. The above is subject to the sickness absence procedures being followed.

    Bank Holiday           

    A £25.00 additional payment is made when working whole or part of BH.
    Holidays This payment is only for staff who are required to work on the Bank Holiday e.g. Inpatients, Kitchen, Housekeeping.

    Staff Dining Room

    Excellent catering facilities which offer hot meals, snacks and sandwiches at lunch time.
