A charity golf day staged at Wrexham Golf Club has raised more than £5,700 for Nightingale House Hospice.
Now in its 26th year, the event has raised £5,754.84 this time and a total of over £130,000 since its inception in 1992.Over 200 golfers took part in teams of four and, for possibly the first time, an all ladies team scooped first prize. The winning team, comprising Jackie Williams, Angela Miller, Helen Milner and Kath Norman, who are all members of Wrexham Golf Club, scored 91 points, two clear of `The Birdies’ in second with 89 points, Northop Golf Club in third with 89 and Keith Miller’s team in fourth also with 89. The ladies’ prize was won by Dorne Tym’s team with 88 points.
The event was generously sponsored by Wrexham Lager with additional support from Mondelez International (Cadbury). Many prizes were also donated for an auction as well as a bumper raffle with the top prize of a stunning occasional chair provided by Westbridge Furniture in Greenfield.
Angela Miller from the winning team said “We had an amazing time playing the course and had so much fun but it is important that we don’t forget why this event takes place and ensure that lots of money is raised for Nightingale House. A good deal of hard work goes into this every year and we are very happy to support it.”
Debbie Barton, Area Fundraiser for Nightingale House said: “Once again it was a hugely successful event with the warm weather and excellent scores making it a memorable day for all who took part. This is a wonderful annual event and one that marks the first class collaboration between the hospice and Wrexham Golf Club. We would like to thank the Club, Wrexham members Anne and Selwyn Roberts who organised the event for the 15th time this year, as well as everyone who played or contributed to the day in other ways. All the proceeds will help us in our work to provide care, comfort and support to local people and their families who rely on the services provided by the hospice.”
