Family fundraiser for Nightingale House Hospice in memory of David Hughes

A family aims to go the extra mile to raise funds for a good cause in memory of their loved one.

David Hughes, from Rhosesmor, died last year but was supported greatly in his final weeks by Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham.

As a pay of thanks, the Hughes family will be climbing the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in November this year. The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is a hiking trail in Peru.

Josh Hughes told the Leader that a special video was made in aid of their fundraiser, by David’s grandchildren.

He said: “We want to support Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham.

“Due to COVID-19 it’s an extremely difficult time for the hospice financially, who rely upon donations to keep their doors open. Many of their fundraising events have been postponed or cancelled due to social distancing measures.”

Anyone wishing to donate can do so online at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/hughesinca.

The fundraising page reads: “In memory of our husband and dad, David, the Hughes family will be part of a group from Nightingale House Hospice, climbing the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in November 2020.

“Nightingale House supported David in his final weeks with incredible care, support and compassion. It’s no exaggeration to say that the staff at Nightingale House were our superheros in the final weeks of his life.

“Every penny we raise will help Nightingale House Hospice in their work caring for local people with life-limiting illness and their families as well as children experiencing bereavement.

“The hospice are dependent upon charitable donations to continue the phenomenal work that they do – you can help us support their continued work.

“Thank you. Carole, Richard, Ben and Josh (and all of our families).”
