Cycling Challenge for Dad

In October nearly 40 riders took part in the Etape Cymru 2011 on behalf of Nightingale House Hospice raising over £10,000 for the adult Hospice.

This demanding 100 mile route with over 6,000 feet of climbing was made even more challenging due to the sad circumstances for brothers Richard, Simon Moulton and family friend Andy Pierce who took on the challenge in memory of much loved dad, Derek Moulton, who passed away at the age of 61 after a short battle with cancer, on the evening before the ride. Together they raised over £3,500 for Nightingale House.

“We had promised Dad that we would complete the ride in his memory so we were determined to go through with it; we completed the route, with the great support from Andy with family members, with an overwhelming sense of achievement as we crossed the finish line” was said by Richard and Simon.

“This is such an achievement, especially under such sad circumstances. Thank you so Richard, Simon and Andy for taking part and for helping to raise such a fantastic sum of money“ said Margaret Hollings, community and events fundraiser.

In 2012 it will cost £2.54 million to run the Hospice- this equates to nearly £7,000 per day. Only 19% of this comes from The Local Health Board, which is only enough funding to support the hospice for 69 days, we therefore greatly rely on the generosity of the communities we serve to raise the additional funding for the remaining 297 days of the year.
