Arts and crafts have major therapeutic benefits and are used within the Release child bereavement program. Through art and crafts, children are encouraged to work through their feelings, grief and loss during a difficult time. These activities make use of memory boxes and photo frames especially designed by the children.

Specialist nurses are an important part of the team, supporting patients and their families at what can be a challenging time.

Hydrotherapy
Hydrotherapy involves the therapeutic use of a warm water pool. Structured exercises are used in the hydrotherapy pool to help muscular, joint, and mobility problems, and to aid relaxation. The water temperature helps to stimulate blood flow and relax muscles; while the buoyancy reduces the physical stresses placed on the body and can help the body to move.

Day Care
Day Care provides an opportunity for patients with life limiting illnesses to get together in comfortable and caring surroundings. Day Care provides the opportunity to make friends, share experiences and gain support from other people in similar situations. The staff work closely with the patient, their family and community services to identify specific goals to aim for during the patient’s day.

Release supports bereaved children and families in the local area following the loss of someone special in their lives. They do not have to be directly linked to the hospice. Our service enables many more families and children who require bereavement support to access that support and information quickly.

Complementary Treatment Session
With the use of Reflexology, Relaxation, Acupuncture, Aromatherapy and Massage Therapy to suit the individual needs of the patient. These gentle therapies work alongside other conventional treatments and may enable patients to reduce levels of stress and tension helping them to feel calmer and more able to cope with their challenging situations.

All wards and lounges have been designed with direct access to the hospice gardens for patients and visitors to enjoy.
